Some cordless phones work with an additional "range extender" that boosts the distance you can travel from the base with your handset. All but the most basic cordless phones have a number directory, allowing you to store important contact information in your phone for easy access. Most models can store between about 30 and 50 numbers, but some models can handle 70 or more. If you live in a small house or apartment, a single handset will probably suffice.
If you’re searching for a low-end phone with some more-advanced features, choose this one. AT&T’s CL82219 is similar to the AT&T DL72210, with most of the same features, an almost-identical handset, and a comparable price. The big difference is that the CL82219 doesn’t have a Bluetooth connection, so you can’t pair it with your cell phone. In testing, we were able to take the CL82219 about a house and a half farther before the incoming audio broke up, but that extra range isn’t enough of a bonus to be worth giving up cell phone pairing. In addition, the Bluetooth connection allows you to trigger your smartphone’s voice assistant.

If you want to buy a cordless phone from a manufacturer that seems to know where things are headed, look no further than Panasonic. The KX-TGE475S is a cordless phone system that doesn't even require a landline to use. The handsets encrypt the calls so you can feel pretty comfortable that folks won’t be listening on your calls, as the signal is sent back to the base unit.
The DL72219 has a solid backlight and illuminated keys that make it easy to read in a dark environment. It has a decently loud page function that makes it easy to locate a misplaced headset, beeping about every 1.5 seconds for a full minute when activated. The text on the screen is large enough for most people to easily read at a distance of 6' — made even easier by the fact that this phone hyphenates the numbers. We then listened to each voice message to determine the effective obstructed range of each product. While most cordless phone systems can be expanded, that's not always a given. Even if a cordless system can be expanded, it's important to know how far you can expand. They're relatively straightforward gadgets, and for most people, we think the AT&T DL72210 will get the job done. Its sound quality is good and the system can be expanded with additional handsets if the two provided aren’t quite enough. The phones are really nicely designed, elegant and premium-feeling, but it's their features that win out.

I honestly cannot conceive of why Gigaset decided against putting the tech from the separate box into the base station - baffling. I’m going to cover these as one because they’re basically exactly the same (except for a few little bits that I’ll go over at the end of this review) and are both really good phones. I've spent more man hours than I care to recall trialling, testing and reviewing the different options from the major manufacturers, to find which ones are worth picking up and which should be left off the hook. While not everybody wants or needs an answering service, others find it an extremely useful feature to have.

Now, more than four years later, it’s nearly impossible to find up-to-date thoughts from reputable sources. This made it tricky for us to narrow our latest list of test models, since the manufacturers that make cordless phones release dozens of similar models with only slightly different features. Phone lines still work when the power goes out, but many cordless phones lack any backup power features, making it impossible for you to make calls. If you have frequent power outages or if you don’t have a charged cell phone as a backup option in case of emergency, look for a phone that has an emergency backup battery.

However, this cordless phone is more complicated to use than other models.
